If you’re on our website due to concerns about your adolescent’s academic progress, perhaps you’ve heard a teacher’s remark, or maybe you’ve even thought about it yourself, “they are not achieving up to their potential.”
In a perfect world, students of average or even higher intelligence would see only the grades on their report cards which they could truly be proud of. After all, while high school does present its fair share of challenge, achieving academic success should not be outside the scope of most children. To be sure, every subject does not come naturally to each person, and therefore, there are times when it is totally appropriate to focus specifically on a single subject (math tutoring for instance). But generally speaking, for the typical student, it is not that high school is too difficult.
Often, when a student is not achieving the level which their intelligence suggests they should reach, it’s because their work habits and study skills are underdeveloped and in need of significant strengthening. At Inspire Academic Coaching Niagara, we believe that focused, one-on-one mentoring in areas such as initiative, planning and organization is the key. Given sufficient mentoring, students will begin to close the potential gap, that is, the difference between their present reality, and what anyone who knows them well believes they can accomplish at school. That’s what we do, we’re in the business of unlocking each child’s potential.
