Typical contacts come to us at Inspire from parents or individuals seeking help for teens who are are underperforming academically, not because they lack intelligence, but due to their inability to manage the complexities of school life. Issues such as lack of motivation, personal disorganization or the lack of proper planning, are all conspiring to limit their school success.
Coaching is often the right choice for most students because it focuses on the underlying reasons why students underachieve. Collectively, issues related to initiative, organization and time management are called executive function skills. These aspects, along with the necessary academic skills, form the core of the academic coaching relationship, where a mentor or coach ‘guides’ the student toward more efficient and more effective strategies of school work.
The coaches at Inspire Academic Coaching Niagara have taught thousands of high school students and use these experiences to develop strategies and facilitate coaching sessions with middle school and high school students. Clients are also referred by local counsellors and psychiatrists. Inspire is partnering with Michelle Lohnes and the clinicians at West Niagara Psychology Centre, to work specifically with clients struggling with Executive Function and ADHD disorders.
